August 3rd, 2015

Buenas tardes mi familia y mis amigos! Espero que todos esten bien y que tengan una buena semana!
Good afternoon my family and friends! I hope all are well and had a great week!!!
So first to get the bad news out of the way because nobody likes that! So this week we got some disappointing news from Yasmin. So she's had this problem with her eye that's been causing some discomfort and pain and the doctors really have only been able to say that it's do to the fact that she has depression. She received a blessing and we've been praying for her but the other day she got frustrated and told her mom that God doesn't listen or help her so she doesn't want to be baptized. We got to talk to her mom, Emilia, alone because Yasmin was out with a friend and she told us what had happened and why Yasmin was saying she didn't want to be baptized. She told us that after Yasmin said that Emilia told her that she was going to send us a text to tell us, which she did. She also told us that after she sent it Yasmin felt sad about it and said that we probably weren't going to love her or come see her anymore. So we wrote notes to Yasmin and gave them to Emilia. We were pretty disappointed and also surprised because we had been seeing a light in her that I haven't ever seen before. She came to church AND mutual last week and she made a friend and it was really awesome but then that happened. However we have faith in the Lord's timing and we're going to just continue to work with her and help her strengthen her testimony. And also we haven't been able to see her since Tuesday because Emilia keeps having to work or leave the house or something but we could just need to talk to her and maybe she'll change her mind but it's alright! Heavenly Father has a plan and all we can do is just love her through it!!

So now for the fun stuff!!!!
A bunch of stuff fell through the other day and we just decided to go see Diana (less active 17 year old who we haven't been able to meet with because she works 2 jobs now and is also the very first person I met on my mission and I love her soooooo much!!!!!!!!) and see how she's doing if she wasn't working. So we pull up to where her house is and there was this HUGE kids party going on. There was a bounce house (I'd just like to let everyone know that I've seen more of those on my mission than I ever have in my life, I think it might be a cultural thing and I love it so much) and a piñata going on with like 3 that had already been smashed and were sprawled across the lawn and a bunch of little kids running around!!! So after I got over my amazement of what I was seeing I realized how hard it was going to be to find Diana or even get to see her. But right as I thought that she just happened to be walking to her neighbors house right by our car!!! MIRACLE I THINK YES!!! So I just pointed at her and was like DIANA!!!! and she was like OH MY GOSH!!! (in a good way!) and so then we got out and she asked us if we wanted cake and wanted to meet her new boyfriend and hang out so we were like uhhhh sure! So we just got to hangout with her at her brother and her cousin's 8 YEAR OLD birthday party! The biggest 8 year old party I've ever seen in my whole life. Also the chipmunks were playing and they WERE SPEAKING SPANISH. It was one of the most hilarious things I had ever heard!!! But it was actually a really great missionary opportunity because we helped her sister (not a member) set up for the cake and got to talk to her and got to talk to Diana about seeing her and got to see Citlali (her cousin who's also less active and like 16). It was also really hilarious to be the only gueras (white girls) but everyone was happy we were there!!!

We had breakfast with Emilia on Saturday and talked to her about her life and it was soooooo crazy. She's been through so much especially getting here to America and that was the craziest part of what she was telling us. It made me appreciate the things I have so much more and just want to help her even more to always remember the love that Heavenly Father has for her. She's so amazing though. She told us several times she's just so thankful for Heavenly Father for helping her through all her trials and everything. Also she made pancakes (in Spanish pronounced pan-kay-kes) and eggs and we put Valentina (my new favorite condiment since coming out here, it's hot sauce but it's basically the best thing ever, Soy Mejicana). It was so fun!!!!

We sang at a temple concert night last night at the church building next to the Newport Temple (aka where my sister will be married next March, it's fine I'm just super excited and so happy)!!! All of us Hermanas(how everyone refers to the Spanish speaking sister) sang "Savior, My Redeemer" in Spanish and it was pretty cool! We didn't have a whole lot of time to practice and we kinda messed up while performing but everyone stilled loved it! So I don't know if anyone really noticed! (they probably did I'm just hoping no haha) Then we did temple tour with a bunch of members of our ward that came!!! We walk around outside the temple and a sister (Sister Ruiz usually does it, she's English speaking but is from Guatamala) talks about the temple and it's sooo awesome!! I encourage all of you who ever have the chance, members of the church of not, to do a temple tour! They're sooooo amazing!!!

Well that's all for this week folks!!! I would just like to close with my testimony that Heavenly Father loves you!! I've gained a very very strong and sure knowledge of that fact on my mission and I can testify to you all with all my heart and might that He truly loves you, and that His Son, Jesus Christ also loves you. So much that He came to this earth to suffer and die for all of us, but I also know the greatest gift that He has given, the most joyous and glorious part of His ministry, was that He lived, and continues to live and to help us through every trial we have ever had or will ever have, so that we can also live forever with our families.so long as we follow His teachings revealed through the holy scriptures and through those who posses the restored priesthood that was given to Christ's Apostles, and are called to be His prophets, seers and revelators. I testify again saying that Christ and Heavenly Father truly love you all perfectly and *individually*.
I love you all so much!!!!! I hope you have a fantastic week!!!
Love,
Hermana Christensen
